How Would you Behave at an In-Person Book Club?

Imagine you showed up to an in-person book club planning to cook dinner, answer emails, watch your kids, and to top it all off - you had a bag over your head because you were feeling tired. Would you behave this way meeting people in-person?

Creating an in-person experience on Zoom is easy if we treat one another with the same respect we would give to others during an in-person gatherings. To create this experience we agree to forgo some ‘conveniences’ and ‘flexibilities’ that online meetings sometimes allow for.  With this in mind, members of Climb - The Small Business Book Club agree to:

• Always have the video turned on during Zoom book club meetings, recognizing the importance of seeing one another in building relationships and community.

• Be in a location with adequate internet connectivity to allow for Zoom video and audio.

• Join from a space with limited background noise, or use headphones or another type of noise cancelling microphone.

• Be in a location and circumstance where it is easy to focus on the book club activities and supporting your group. 

• Never join the meeting while in transit (car, bus, train), while attending another event/meeting, while actively working, etc, etc…

• Avoid multi-tasking during the meeting - cooking dinner and walking the dog can wait.

• Limit distractions and interruptions as much as possible by (including but not limited to) silencing phone, turning off email alerts, and setting boundaries with family.

In addition to these meeting standards, as a supportive community with a focus on helping one another succeed, members also agree to:

• Offer constructive and supportive critiques and feedback rather than disparaging criticism.

• Celebrate groupmates accomplishments and progress.

• Never make defamatory, discriminatory, offensive, unlawful, or threatening comments.

• Use this platform to sell a product/service or encourage others to join a multi-level marketing business.
