FAQ

How do you create a book club experience online?

Everyone in Climb Book Club will work together to create an in-person book club feeling by following a few community standards. Just like you wouldn't show up to an in-person book club with a bag over your head, book club members will agree to have their video turned on at all times. Each member will also commit to finding a quiet space (or using a microphone), so they won’t create distracting background noise. Finally, members will offer groupmates the same attention they would give when meeting in person. That means putting away work, waiting to cook dinner, walking the dog some other time, setting boundaries with family, and silencing phones.

When everyone is participating and present, you can build relationships and learn from one another, regardless of whether you are in-person or online.

Can I still attend the meetings if I can’t commit to the community standards?

Unfortunately, at this time the answer is no. We understand that some people have weak wifi and/or very busy schedules that will prevent them from adhering to the community standards. We are exploring the possibility of offering special groups for people with no video or people who will be multitasking. If you would be interested in joining and being a part of a ‘less engaged’ group, reach out to us on the Contact page and let us know.

*Even if you can’t attend the meetings, you can still get many benefits from being a Climb member. With your membership, you will be able to login and access the action plan worksheets to help you apply lessons from the book. You can watch video of the full group discussion and do your own reflection on the questions posed. Plus, you can join our exclusive Facebook group and participate in the book club conversation happening there!

How do you create the discussion groups for meetings?

When you register for a book club meeting, you will receive an email with some questions about your experience level and your goals for book club. Based on those responses you will be placed in one of three group types - Getting Down to Business, Connect and Learn Together, Building Community. If you decide you would like to change your group, you can request to do so at any time.

What do I need to do to prepare for a meeting?

  1. Read the book OR you can watch our YouTube post/read our blog post, and you’ll be ready to join the conversation. Check out our homepage for all the information you need for our current month’s book.

  2. Make sure you have a Zoom account - you will have to be logged in to Zoom to access the meetings. Basic Zoom accounts are completely free!

  3. Check that the name on your Zoom profile matches the name you submitted when registering for your Climb - The Small Business Book Club membership. That name is how we will confirm that you are in a fact a member. If it doesn’t match, you won’t be allowed in the meeting.

What if I am unable to attend one month?

We will miss you, but not to fret. Every month, we will post the action plan worksheet, so you can still apply what you have learned from the book to your business. And, if you have questions or thoughts you want to share, you can bring them to the exclusive Climb - The Small Business Book Club Facebook group.
